Employees and people in Bizzy

Bizzy collects various data points, including information on employees and people, but what’s the difference between the two? Find out in this article!

Employees

In the Overview tab, the number of employees is displayed based on data from the company’s annual report. If a company is not required to submit a (full) annual report, and we do not have access to this data, we will always estimate the number of employees.

When creating a list in Bizzy, you can filter based on the number of employees.

People

In the People tab, contacts are displayed based on social media profiles.

How to explain a difference between the number of people and employees

A difference in the number of people and employees can arise for several reasons. Here are a few examples:

  • A company may employ many freelancers. Freelancers are not included in the annual report, but are likely to mention on social media that they work for the company.
  • External consultants, board members, and interns might add themselves to a company on LinkedIn, even though they are not considered "employees" in the annual report.
  • Companies in industries with a large number of blue collar workers (e.g., construction, logistics, or manufacturing) often have more employees than people listed in Bizzy, as blue collar workersmay be less active on social media.
  • Annual reports always reflect data from the previous year. A fast-growing startup may have hired many new employees over the past year, who are already displayed under People but not yet reflected in the annual report.
  • Annual reports use full-time equivalents (FTEs), while LinkedIn reflects individuals. For example, five part-timers working at 0.4 FTE each would appear as 2 FTEs in the annual report but as five profiles on LinkedIn.
  • Employees do not always keep their LinkedIn profiles up to date. For instance, former employees may still list themselves as current workers, or new employees may not have updated their profiles yet.
